Rosan to introduce Caravan Park
by Shirajiv SIRIMANE
The five star Rosan Renaissance Hotel Kataragama is to construct Sri
Lanka's first Caravan Park in Sri Lanka. This is expected to be set up
in Kataragama.
Managing Director of the Hotel, Sagara Palihawardane who also owns
and operates a five star hotel in Weligama speaking to the Sunday
Observer from Australia said that he is now negotiating with a business
partner in Australia for this project.
"I want to take advantage of the current political climate and to
bring some innovativeness to the industry and this is why I decided to
set up the Caravan Park with an Australian partner," he said.
The Caravan Park will allow both local and foreign tourists to camp
in Caravans where meals would be served in the Caravan.
"The project while providing new employment opportunities would also
open a new chapter in Sri Lanka tourism wooing a new brand of niche
tourists to the country," he said.
India too has come forward to promote caravan tourism which involves
the use of a specially equipped vehicle deployed on a tourist circuit
and connecting it by road.
He said that the new airport and Harbour at Hambantota too would help
their Caravan project.
Commenting on the recently concluded election he said that the
inevitable political stability in the next few years will certainly
bring about economic prosperity that we expect and what the government
has planned.
"As far as the tourism industry is concerned I strongly expect a
brighter future that Sri Lanka had never experienced before, hopefully
by becoming the number one foreign income earning industry making a
great contribution for the country's overall economic activity."
"The existing accommodation capacity will have to be expanded in
order to facilitate the expected growth in the tourism industry and this
would create a construction boom for the industry," he added.
