All set for repoll on Tuesday

Commissioner of Elections Dayananda Dissanayake has made all arrangements for the repoll on Tuesday in 37 polling stations in the Nawalapitiya electorate in the Kandy district and the Kamburupitiya polling station in the Trincomalee district.

According to an Elections Department spokesman 650 officials would be deployed for election duty.

All election propaganda were carried out till midnight yesterday, he said. Police media spokesman SP Prishanta Jayakody said 400 officers from the Special Task Force in addition to the normal police security have been deployed in the Kandy and Trincomalee districts.

A 300-strong Army unit was also deployed in the districts, for round the clock security.

Four-hundred-and-sixty-five candidates representing 14 political parties and 17 Independent groups in the Kandy district and 217 candidates in the Trincomalee district from 17 political parties and 14 independent groups are in the fray.
