Holidaymakers flock to Nuwara Eliya
by P. Rajaratnam in Nuwara Eliya
A large number of holidaymakers, including foreigners flocked to
Nuwara Eliya during the April Festive Season.
Leading hotels, motels and all holiday destinations not only in
Nuwara Eliya, but in the entire hillcountry are packed with holiday
crowds particularly the youngsters.
There appears to be a boon period for the hotel trade and the traders
themselves.
There is a shortage of chicken and fish in Nuwara Eliya for the past
one or two weeks due to the heavy influx of holiday crowds.
The Municipal Authorities with the co-operation of all leading sports
bodies and other social service organisations have drawn up a
comprehensive April Festivities program for the benefit of holiday
crowds which include the Golf championships, Tennis tournaments, motor
racing, Horse Race meet and other musical fiestas.
The annual flower show organised by the Nuwara Eliya Municipal
Council will be held on April 24 and 25, at the Victoria Park.
The President of the Nuwara Eliya Golf Club Umesh de Silva, and
former colonial planter Clive Tissera, have drawn up several
international Golf tournaments for this April season, while a leading
Chef from Colombo has been engaged to provide the golfers and those
patronising this club with an array of dishes during this festive season
at reasonable rates.
