TNA ready for talks with Government
by Shanika SRIYANANDA
Tamil National Alliance (TNA) leader Rajavarothayam Sampanthan has
expressed his party's willingness to cooperate with the government or
any other party, which is prepared to address the expectations of the
Tamils.
Commenting on his party's future plan, Sampanthan told the Sunday
Observer it was too early to comment on his party's future decisions,
and it was watching closely the developments that are taking place in
the Southern Political arena.
" The Government has not indicated its position with regard to the
TNA. We will take a responsible decision if there is a good response for
us from the government", he said.
Sampanthan said they would extend their support if the government was
ready to resolve the immediate issues of the Tamils.
He said that the immediate issue was a solution to the national
question, which was very essential not merely in the interests of Tamils
but in the interests of the whole country.
"We are prepared to play a constructive role if the government
responds positively", he said.
According to Sampanthan, the TNA has not received a formal invitation
from the government seeking its support.
He said that 14 new TNA MPs elected from the North and the East will
meet in Trincomalee today to discuss their future activities.
Five TNA MPs from the Jaffna district, three from the Vanni district,
three from the Batticaloa district and one from the Ampara district have
been elected to the new Parliament.Polls will be held again for the
Trincomalee district April 20.
