CBL sponsors South Asia's fastest man to 2012 Olympics

Shehan Ambepitiya - Sprints his way to 2012 Olympics supported by Munchee.

Ceylon Biscuit's Ltd (CBL)'s flagship brand Munchee recently announced their extension of sponsorship to Commonwealth Youth medalist, now acclaimed as the fastest man in South Asia, Shehan Ambepitiya.

The sponsorship from Munchee will enable the 20 year old Shehan to develop his athletic skills for upcoming international meets with particular focus on the 2012 Olympics to be held in London.

The partnership between CBL and Shehan, which began three years ago, has now been extended for a further period with both parties making sure that Shehan wins gold at the next Olympic Games.

Selected for an exclusive sponsorship by Munchee when he was burning the local track with scintillating performances, the sponsorship for Shehan will provide for some overseas training and participation at international meets, all of which will enhance his capability and expose him to the international arena.

Nandana Wickramage, CBL's Group Director and Head of Marketing said that they were glad that they had acceded to a request made by R.I.T Alles, founder and chairman of Gateway International, when he sought a request for one of his star athletes.

This was the beginning of brand Munchee's support of Shehan first throughout his training for school events followed by inter school meets and then at national and international levels.

"We felt it our responsibility as a Sri Lankan company to nurture and support a talented and gifted athlete and we are delighted to see the great strides Shehan has been making in the athletic field locally and in the region.

He has the potential to win a medal at the next Olympics and we at CBL are proud of having been a small part of his achievement" said an upbeat Wickramage.

A formal agreement was entered into last year with a 20% annual performance based increment to ensure increased capital each year for the athlete. "The sponsorship motivated me to improve my skills and reach higher goals" said Shehan.

"I am truly thankful for the support throughout the years especially during my mother's illness when my family needed assistance the most".

"My ambition is to win a medal at the Olympics" he added.

Shehan commenced his elementary education at President's College, Rajagiriya before receiving a scholarship to Gateway International where he completed his Advanced Level and is currently following lectures at Gateway Graduate School.
