Yoshitha:
Rugby celebrity!
It was a memorable occasion when
President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s second son Yoshitha was awarded the Most
Popular Captain for leading the Navy Sports Club team at the Caltex
Observer rugby awards held recently. Under his supervision, Yoshitha and
his full-bodied team went on to win the Most Popular Rugby Club.
Yoshitha captained the Sri Lanka navy rugby team where his elder
brother Namal also played. The Sri Lanka Navy Rugby team won with top
honours, with a majority of the matches they played last year. They even
went to beat the consistent champions Kandy SC and CR&FC to take on the
title of champions.
Yoshitha has come a long way as a top grade ruggerite and he is also
representing Sri Lanka at the Asian 5 Nation Rugby Tournament held in
Singapore presently. Moreover, Yoshitha has excelled as a versatile
young sportsman. Apart from his first passion rugby, he has shown good
potential in shooting at a national level and has also taken part in a
couple of motor racing events.
Yoshitha came to the limelight after he captained his alma mater St.
Thomas’College in 2006 taking over from his brother Namal who captained
in the previous year. He graduated from the Royal Navy College and
joined Sri Lanka Navy as a Midshipman and is now a Sub Lieutenant.
Yoshitha is definitely a fitting example of a youth who is committed to
serving his country!
