To my future son-in-law

I cannot imagine who you would be
Or from where you would come
Will you be tall and dark....
Or fair and handsome?

However you look
Or from wherever you come
I only want to make sure
That your heart and soul
Are well nourished with
Love and consideration
Kindness and sympathy

My little girl would
No longer be 'little'
When you find her
But I'll make sure
Her heart would be big enough
To hold the love for a lifetime!

So you must remember son
That a little girl now, a grown up woman
Needs the love and respect
That every woman deserves

Tribute to Somadevi

At that moment of crisis
The scales were in her hands
She balanced all,
Her life
Her husband's, the people's, the country's
To give lightning speed,
By lightening the carriage's burden
She stepped down into the jungle
'Midst terrors and dangers unknown
Fearless she stood in the jungle dark
And thus a nation was saved
From the invader's crushing feet
Looking into time's mirror
From this moment
To that stupendous moment
Of a woman's courage
Only her name is reflected there

Daphne Jayawardena

Hail alma mater!

A hundred years of pride and glory
Soft and silent, you murmur your story
Grown in a rich and humble way
You look so huge and proud today

Rich and poor are all alike
You are ready to treat all with a smile
Black, white, yellow, you never do mind
"Welcome ye to my shade", smiled you kind

Queens of paradise isle you bore
And charming beauties of the 'little pearl'
Never did you step back for a while
Because you knew you had a thousand mile

'Sea coast to hills' thy name doth shine
Fame and success is to you, mother of mine
With lasting love your service you rend
You are the wise and Royal Queen so kind

Your rough stone walls yet stand so strong
The journey you've come is so very long
But yet there lies more miles ahead
Never do stop but let a thousand echo

Anne Pavey

To you...

'Music, when soft voices die
Vibrates in the air
Now and then
Unforgettable memories - silent thoughts
Down memory lane
Whether to repent or rejoice
Over and over again
The echoing songs
Will never die
In the deserts of vast eternity
Through the iron gates of life
Shall not the grief of the old time follow?
Hast thou forgotten, do I forget?

Welcome the New Year

Thamil calendar shows Chithirai as the first month
And Thamil New Year falls on the first day of this month
Chithirai is at the entrance of spring
Which brings rains, and cuckoos to sing

Force the darkness of ignorance to depart
And light the lamp of love to glow bright
To make way for right and fair behaviour everywhere
We warmly welcome the New Year

Respect everyone with heart and help each other
To make the life sweet as sugar
Let the torments flee, to live without fear
We warmly welcome the New Year!

Lovely sight of flowers seen in spring
Peace blooms in the garden of love and understanding
By the grace of God to live with pleasure
We warmly welcome the New Year!
