Rukman calls for change in UNP leadership

It is time for the UNP leadership to be replaced with a leader such as Hambantota District MP Sajith Premadasa, said former Assistant Leader of the UNP Rukman Senanayake.

He said the UNP has lost its vote base especially in rural Sri Lanka under the leadership of Ranil Wickremesinghe, who has neglected the much respected policies of the party’s founder leaders such as D.S. Senanayake and Dudley Senanayake.

Former Kegalle District MP Senanayake, whose name was excluded in the UNP National List, said there is no alternative to revive the party than removing Ranil Wickremesinghe from the party leadership.

His leadership is not accepted by the majority of the UNP membership. Wickremesinghe has proved that he cannot lead the party and win elections, Senanayake said.

He said that he had successfully contested four general elections, two each from Polonnaruwa and Kegalle districts.

He said that he was the only UNPer who backed the war against the LTTE in the national interest. LSAW
