NYSC takes to cricket

CRICKET: National Youth Services Council (NYSC) has done yeoman
service by having competitions of various sporting events for the
benefit of the up-and-coming sportsman and sportswomen in the country.
In the past few years, the NYSC has helped the youth to improve
standards in a number of sports. Athletics has benefitted from the
council's close tag with the athletes and many champions have emerged as
a result.
The National Youth Services Council has now gone on to cricket. A new
club has been formed for the promotion of leatherball cricket. Bhaswara
Senanika Gunaratne - the Chairman and Director General of National Youth
Services Council has been the man behind the scene in getting up this
club there is tremendous enthusiasm among the up-and-coming players for
the game of cricket.
With the formation of the cricket club, cricket equipment for around
Rupees one lakh was presented by the Chairman Bhaswara Senanika
Gunaratne to the cricket wing. To mark the occasion, a T20 exhibition
match was also played.
The National Youth Cricket Team will take cricket seriously and will
play in Cricket Board's tournament matches.
