The Interact Clubs of St. Bridget's Convent and St. Peter's College
have jointly organised `AIDS Awareness Campaigns', to educate the public
enabling a better and brighter future for Sri Lanka. Subsequent to the
'The AIDS Walk' will be held in Colombo subsequently, which will include
over one thousand five hundred students from Colombo and Greater
Colombo.
The AIDS awareness campaign were held in four significant cities;
Galle, Anuradhapura, C olombo and Jaffna. The campaigns were proposed to
educate the public on the subject of AIDS and its prevention.
The journey of the Interact Clubs of St. Peter's and St. Bridget's
began from the beginning of this year, planning and presenting under
their theme "It's your right to know and choice to be free". The
effective thinking of this cause prompted the Interact Clubs of St.
Bridget's Convent and St. Peter's College to organise AIDS awareness
campaigns which were held during the month of April, at the Youth
Network Hall in Anuradhapura, Weerasingham Hall in Jaffna, Sacred Heart
Convent in Galle and at the St. Bridget's Convent, Colombo 7 with the
participation of over 200-300 persons in each group.
The conclusion of this major project is with a Walk and a Fair on the
May 15, with the Walk commencing at 7.30 am opposite Viharamahadevi
Park. The Interact Clubs welcome students, teachers and the general
public to attend the event.
Sahana Ravishankar of the Interact Club of St. Bridget's Convent said
that their vision is to create a better attitude among people towards
those who suffer from AIDS, so that they will receive love, kindness,
care and acceptance in society.
