New District Court in Killinochchi

The District Court in Killinochchi will be opened Tomorrow after almost three decades.

Civil Appellate Judge J. Viswanathan will open the Killinochchi Court house at 9 a.m. tomorrow, according to sources.

The Killinochchi District Court was defunct for the past three decades since the area was under the grip of the LTTE, the sources said.

Staffers for the Killinochchi Court were transferred from Jaffna and the Chavakachcheri Courts from the beginning of this month, sources said.The Police Station in Killinochchi was re-established in the region soon after the Security Forces took control of the area last year, sources said.The Killinochchi Court sessions will begin tomorrow in a temporary building. However, steps have been taken to erect a new Court house building with assistance from the Asian Development Bank, the sources said.
