Saranga Rajaguru demolish Wallala

CRICKET: A brilliant all-round performance of Sri Lanka under-19
cricketer Saranga Rajaguru helped Nugawela Central College to an easy
165 run win over Wallala Central College in their 7th Battle of the
Central for C.W.W. Kannangara Trophy conducted at Police Ground, Kandy
yesterday.
It was an amazing all-round performance by Saranga Rajaguru who
virtually demolished his opponents single-handedly.
In the first innings he scored a belligerent 90 with 14 fours and 5
sixes in 45 balls. In the second innings he did even better by scoring
114 with 13 fours and 6 sixes in 62 falls. He thus scored 204 in the
match.
Saranga Rajaguru bowled his leg-spinners to a tidy length to capture
7 for 50 to help dismiss Wallala Central College for 116.
In the second innings he took 2 for 45 giving him a match bag of 9
for 95. Medium pacer Sampath Amunugama too returned the fine figures of
5 for 42 which destroyed Wallala Central's second innings for 111.
In fact Wallala were set a victory target of 276, but this was too
much for them as they crumbled against the pace-spin combination of
Sampath Amunugama and Saranga Rajaguru.
At the awards ceremony which followed the following carried away the
individual awards.
Best Fielder: Y.K. Abeykoon (Wallala)
Best Bowler: Saranga Rajaguru (Nugawela)
Best Batsman: Saranga Rajaguru (Nugawela)
Man of the Match: Saranga Rajaguru (Nugawela)
Zonal Director of Education D.A. Hettiarachchi was the chief guest.
This was Nugawela Central's second win in the series.
Nugawela Central College: 208 all out and 184 for 4 declare in 31
overs (Saranga Rajaguru 114, Chamara Wanigesekera 37, Sampath Amunugama
22, S. Randika 2 for 79).
Wallala Central College: 116 all out and 111 all out in 33 overs (S.
Samarawickrema 24, S. Sankalpa 18, M. Buwaneka 19, S. Sapumal 11,
Sampath Amunugama 5 for 42, Saranga Rajaguru 2 for 45).
