'Volleyball Sira' dies
Former Sri Lanka volleyball captain, W.L. Siriwardena of Gampaha
passed away on Friday at the National Hospital, Colombo.
Popularly known as 'Volleyball Sira' for his heroics as a spiker,
Siriwardena was once rated as the best 'dasher' in Asia and was awarded
a gold medal by Governor of a Pakistan province.
He was 72 at the time of his demise and leaves his wife and three
children. He was one time member of the Gampaha Pradeshiya Sabha. His
funeral will take place on Wednesday, May 19 at the Kasagawatta
Cemetery, Gampaha. (RA)
