Colombo Deaf Cricketers - champs for third year

CRICKET: Colombo Deaf ‘A’ Team led by Sri Lanka deaf cricketer Lakshman Fernando did well to bag the Asela Nalin Jayatilleke Trophy when they emerged champions for the third successive year beating Bandarawela Deaf ‘A’ by five wickets in the final of the Six-a-Side Softball Cricket Tournament played at the G.H. Buddhadasa Stadium, Pelawatte. Bandarawela Deaf Team ‘A’ were awarded the runners-up trophy - the Asela Nalin Jayatilleke Trophy as the runners-up.

[First round]

(a) Colombo Deaf Team “A’ beat Piliyandala Deaf Team ‘A’ by 57 runs. Colombo ‘A’: 101 for 1 wkt. Piliyandala ‘A’: 44 runs for 4 wkts.

(b) Ragama Deaf Team ‘A’ beat Kalutara Deaf Team ‘S’ by 2 wkts. Kalutara ‘A’: 26 runs for 5 wkts. Ragama ‘A’: 27 runs for 3 wkts in 2.5 overs.

(c) Vavuniya Deaf ‘A’ beat Sri Lanka Deaf Rehabilitation Organisation ‘A’ by 43 runs. Vavuniya ‘A’: 75 runs for 2 wkts. DLDRO ‘A’: 32 runs for 3 wkts.

(d) Bambalapitiya Deaf ‘A’ beat Young Deaf Association Team ‘A’ by 4 wkts. Young ‘A’: 54 runs for 2 wkts. Bambalapitiya ‘A’: 57 runs for 1 wkt in 3.3 overs.

(e) Matara Deaf ‘A’ beat Colombo Deaf ‘B’ by 8 runs. Matara ‘A’: 65 runs for 1 wkt. Colombo ‘B’: 57 runs for 4 wkts.
