More lorryloads of dry rations, coconuts, water bottles and rice are
being sent from the Northern Province as aid to the flood victims in the
Gampaha district.
“Fourteen lorries carrying foodstuff were sent as relief items by the
people of the North to the flood victims in the Gampaha district.
Already lorry-loads from Jaffna, Mannar and Vavuniya have arrived in
Gampaha and the aid from Kilinochchi will arrive soon,” Northern
Province Governor Major General G. A. Chandrasiri told the ‘Sunday
Observer’.
In recognition of the service extended to the people in the North by
Economic Development Minister, Gampaha District Parliamentarian Basil
Rajapaksa under the ‘Wadakkin Wasantham’ (Northern Spring) mega
development program, the people in the North are assisting those
affected by floods.
People in the Mullaitivu district have sent a large number of
coconuts as they enjoyed a lavish harvest, during this season. People
are providing more items at several collecting centres in the Northern
province.
According to the Governor, the aid includes water bowsers and gully
emptiers. The staff of the Northern Provincial Council in Trincomalee
donated a day’s salary to the aid program.
