Kingswood register 43-20 win against Rajans

It was pulsating as Kingswood College staved off a spirited late challenge by their traditional rivals Dharmaraja College to register a 43 points (4 goals, 3 tries) to 20 (1 goal, 2 tries, 1 penalty) victory in their schools Singer Shield under-19 Division II rugby tournament played at the Bogambara Stadium, Kandy. At half Kingswoodians led 28-0.

If the initial half belonged to the Kingswoodians the Rajans had the better of the exchanges after the turn around.

The Kingswoodians went into the match as favourites and tore into the Rajans territory in the first half. But midway in the second half they lost their skipper and stand off Rajitha Sansoni following a shoulder injury and his absence made the difference and Rajans got on top of their opponents especially in the last quarter of the game.

Rajans who kept putting pressure on their opponents were rewarded through a try scored by flanker T. D. Ratnayake.

During the injury time Rajans reduced the lead through a fine try by No. 8 Sathsara Dissanayake.

Priyantha Nawaratne refereed.

Kingswood College retained the William Weerasinghe Memorial Shield for the seventh year in succession.

Kingswood won the junior game 22-0.
