The ‘heart’ of eating

“Vorrei tutto sul menu!” are the Italian words you would exclaim upon stepping inside the comfortable doors of Michael Angelo. The expression, meaning “I want everything on the menu!” will definitely rings true for many an ear and the regulars who frequent this quaint spot. Imagine your teeth sinking into pure bliss with special beef ravioli with tomato, a clay-oven hot crunchy cheesy pizza or some heavenly tiramisu to wipe your cares away!

True Italian paradise is what is offered by Sri Lanka’s who love Italy and so, after a hard days’ work or if you’re a busy family on the move, take to Italian food. Dimuthu Gamage, a respected Italian food connoisseur and COO said, “By serving authentic Italian food, we don’t compromise on quality. We use daily fresh ingredients that are hand-picked and use the best of imported Italian products like extra-virgin olive oil to give our patrons the true taste of Italy!”

Offering everything from a traditional pizza plate, fresh pasta, ravioli, Spaghetti Amaratriciana, fettucini and lasagna, Michael Angelo adheres to the needs of the vegetarian such as the Melanzane alla Parmiagiana (egg plant served with cheese layers).

If you get dumped, don’t fret too much over it, a good Italian dumpling ‘Gnocchi’ will make you feel at ease and think in a Italian way of moving onto the next lover. Plus try the lime juice, which is squeezed fresh and especially perfected by Dimuthu. Michael Angelo was so popular that, on one night it was pretty overcrowded. “We try to satisfy every guest with the little space we have but we are happy to say that if people can’t eat here, they are ever so keen to take it away!” said a smiling Dimuthu Also, the aroma of your pizza being baked in the brick-clay oven infuses the real pizza spirit in you so the ‘you see is what you eat’ policy is strictly adhered here!

Noticing the very calm interiors of Michael Angelo, one can safely say that they are perfectly at ease with their food. This is proved when you meet the effervescent and charming owner Nayomini Ratnayake Weerasooriya who is such an epitome of womanhood that no wonder the place is a success. Juggling various roles such as personality trainer, writer, editor, publisher, PR consultant, loving mother and supportive wife, Nayomini has come a long way as a strong modern woman who is a fitting example for others to follow.

“There can be many challenges in life but with a strong heart and an open mind, you can overcome it all. Women should look good and feel good even after they are married and have children so I recommend all women should maintain themselves and eat right!”

Michael Angelo (as opposed to Michelangelo) is the only Italian restaurant in the suburbs of Colombo. It opened on Easter Sunday this year.

And with this in mind, remember for a trim and gorgeous figure with healthy eating for your heart, head down over to Michael Angelo right now!
