Keen tussle as contest hots up

The prestigious Observer-Mobitel Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year mega awards ceremony is only a fortnight away. It is scheduled to be held mid next month at the BMICH.

The two contests for the Observer-Mobitel Most Popular Schoolboy Cricketer All-Island and Outstation ;’crowns’ have turned out to be a keen tussle for supremacy. Royalists Shavendra Edirisuriya and Kithruwan Vithanage are separated by a mere 98 votes as the former takes a thrilling lead. Following the two Royalists closely in third place is Chathura Peiris of St.Peter’s College.

A similar three-cornered tussle exists in the Observer-Mobitel Most Popular Schoolboy Cricketer Outstation contest too. K. Wickremarachchi of Gamini MV, Bentota has regained the lead with a slim 26-vote majority, ahead of Malinda Samarasekera of Maris Stella College - last week’s leader who has now dropped to second place. In third place is Rajaguru of Nugawela Central.

Sri Lanka’s national mobile telephone network, SLT Mobitel is the principal sponsor of the 32-year -old contest which has produced many legendary Sri Lankan cricketers.
