President opens shrine at Agbopura viharaya
President Mahinda Rajapaksa declared open the new Buddhist shrine at
the Agbopura Rajamaha Viharaya, Kantale yesterday.
He offered dana to the Maha Sangha and had a friendly chat with the
participants.
On the advice of the Preisent, the Deputy Buddhist Affairs Minister
M. K. D. S. Gunawardena had organised a meeting of all religious leaders
in the Trincomalee district to be held today (30) at the Raja Maha
Viharaya with the objective of creating a disciplined society ensuring
religious co-existence.
Later the President visited the historic Somawathie Dagoba and
performed the religious observances.
Ven. Agbopura Gnanawimala Nayaka Thera, Chief Sanghanayaka of
Uthuru-Neganahira palatha, Ven. Amarangoda Pannaloka Nayaka Thera,
Deputy Buddhist Affairs Minister M. K. D. S. Gunawardena Presidential
Secratariat Staff Chief Gamini Senarath, Ven. Vehigala Dhammadheera
Thera, Minister Maithreepala Sirisena and Deputy Ministers Chandrasiri
Suriyarachchi Siripala Gamlath and MP Roshan Ranasinghe were present.
