Panadol supports Sri Lanka medical library
Panadol, a brand of paracetamol marketed by GlaxoSmithKline Consumer
Healthcare - Sri Lanka, recently extended icts partnership with the Sri
Lanka Medical Library.
Panadol has been the sole private sponsor of the Library for over ten
years since 1998.

The Sri Lanka Medical Library, is the oldest such establishment in
South East Asia and dates back to 1844. Today, with a membership roster
in excess of 2800, the library caters exclusively to qualified medical
practitioners and is located in Wijerama Mawatha, Colombo 7.
The Sri Lanka Medical Library possesses an enviable collection of
over 6000 titles in addition to some 50 local and international, medical
journals.
A testament to the longevity of the library is visible, as it has the
very first volumes of both the prestigious Lancet and BMJ medical
journals. Managing Director of GSK Consumer Healthcare Sri Lanka Sachi
Thomas, said; Since 1998, Panadol has been a pillar of strength to the
establishment that acts as a resource for all medical professionals in
the country.
Panadol is very proud that with our support, the Sri Lanka Medical
Library will be empowered to continue its activities so that future
generations may benefit from its shelves.
The renewed partnership between Panadol and the Sri Lanka Medical
Library will see the extension of a catalogue computerization project,
the inclusion of internet facilities and critical infrastructure
improvements such as modern wall panelling and improving the exterior
said, President of Sri Lanka Medical Library Prof. W. S. E. Perera. The
Sri Lanka Medical Library and the Sri Lankan medical profession is
indeed indebted to Panadol for the continues support.
With the help and support of Panadol, the Library will be able to
continue its mission of critical infrastructure development and help us
better position ourselves to serve the needs of the medical community.
The Library, in addition to its permanent collection, has an
extensive reference library supported by audio visual material, and
photocopy facilities.
Throughout its 40 plus year history in Sri Lanka, Panadol has worked
closely with the medical fraternity to further the cause of continuous
professional development.
Panadol has helped to sponsor clinical meetings. During these fora up
to date medical information is disseminated amongst medical
practitioners.
Panadol also sponsors medical newsletters as part of the brand's
initiative in helping the dissemination of healthcare related
information among health care professionals.
Panadol also works extensively with its extension education teams to
go into rural areas and works with the Ministry of Health, public health
inspectors and midwives to disseminate information and assist them in
their task of improving overall standards of healthcare in Sri Lanka.
In addition, Panadol undertakes initiatives to work with health care
professionals to foster greater public awareness and education,
Panadol's contribution to the cause of dengue eradication in Sri Lanka
is a recent example
