What a world!
Come June 5th and it was yet another environment day. What did we do?
Did we plant a tree? Did we stop polluting the environment? Did we
use aerosols? Did we even stop to think about the carbon emissions?
No we didn’t!
However, we did notice the floods, complain about the weather and
continue with our crazy anti-environmental friendly antics.
The rampant weather patterns with the monsoon becoming even wetter
and the heat becoming dryer, we only complain but we don’t see the light
of things around us. We should at least think of the consequences of our
actions.
Why not start today? Why can’t we as Sri Lanka’s youthful citizens,
take a stand and venture into something worthwhile? Why can’t we plant a
tree? Why can’t we, if we can’t stop carbon emissions, at least minimize
a little?
As World Environment Day (WED) puts us into being environmentally
conscious on that particular day surely we should love Mother Nature
today and everyday forever, right?
The theme for this year’s World Environment Day is ‘Many species. One
planet. One future’ and global celebrations are expected to take place
in Rwanda and Pittsburgh (U.S.A.).
There are many things you can contribute worldwide like give your
conservation tips on the global WED website on www.unep.org or even name
a baby gorilla to help create awareness about extinction.
In a bid to create environmental awareness in Sri Lanka, here in Sri
Lanka too there are various environmental programs to help love our
Mother Nature so protect her and love our environment! |
