Take the dramatic plunge!
Are you interested in drama but
never tried it before?
Do you have a talent for drama but too scared to take to the stage?
Are you a budding drama personality but need some guidance to help
you be better?
If you are keen to venture into the drama industry, don’t fear, but
join Play House Kotte for a wonderful drama experience. Also known as
the Lanka Children’s and Youth Foundation (LCYTF), the Play House will
once again bring its ‘Creative Activities’ programme in July.
Conducted by renowned playwright and veteran theatre director,
Somalatha Subasinghe, it also features one of her bright students,
children’s theatre director Dr. Chandana Aluthge to show the ropes of
drama to budding enthusiasts. Founded in 1981, Somalatha Subasinghe’s
vision was to foster theatrical productions and performances especially
for children and the youth.
Training actors and research on theatre studies are also key
highlights. The organisation presently is the top most institution for
children’s and youth theatre productions in Sri Lanka. Ever since its
inception in 1981, the organisation has developed a wide repertoire of
theatre personalities in the area of musical theatre with mainstream art
productions being conducted in Sri Lanka and abroad. The institution was
even incorporated in Parliament in January 2007 under the Act No.3 of
2007.
Teenaged youth can take part in the programme. The prime objective of
the programme is to develop their mentality and physical aspects while
enhancing them as a well-rounded individual. In addition to this, it
will enrich their artistic taste, cheerfulness and invigorate a sense of
play in their minds through aesthetic experiences. Offering a sense of
satisfaction, the extracurricular learning that supplements the formal
education complements their well-being.
Plus the programme will give opportunities to learn the basics of
enjoying and appreciating music, free movement, dance, rhythmic
movement, acting and language, art, singing, puppetry and handwork.
So not only will this programme develop them physically, it is a
combination of mind, spirit and soul!
