TNA to meet President with open mind
by Ananth PALAKIDNAR
The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) will meet President Mahinda
Rajapaksa with an open mind and priority will be given to the
post-conflict humanitarian issues according to TNA parliamentarian and
spokesman Suresh Premachandran.
Commenting on the much anticipated talks between President Mahinda
Rajapaksa and the Tamil National Alliance tomorrow Suresh Premachandran
told the Sunday Observer that the TNA has nothing to hide.
“We will meet President Rajapaksa with an open mind. The TNA is not
anybody’s proxy. The people in the North and the East have placed
confidence in us.
President Rajapaksa has also obtained the mandate of the people at
the presidential and parliamentary polls to solve the prime issues in
the country.
“The post-conflict humanitarian issues have to be settled without any
further delay. Steps have been taken to address the humanitarian issues.
However, there are shortcomings and the TNA said that all humanitarian
activities such as resettlement and reconstruction should be expedited
to make a viable living for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in their
original places,” Premachandran said. He said that the Tamil question
was a key political issue in the country for the past 60 years. The TNA
said the Tamil issue should be settled amicably. He also said that the
composition of the TNA delegation that will meet the President will be
decided today.
