Holcim FA cup semi finalists found

Nandimithra Sports Club (Civil Security Force) over ran the Sri Lanka Army defence to beat them and to be the fourth Semi finalist of the Holcim FA Cup yesterday at the Police Park. The Soldiers dominated the first half with a one goal lead with the same coming through the boot of their skipper G.K. Silva which came the second minute of the game.

After the turn around R Priyanka struck the equalizer in the 58th minute for the SCF and kept the Pressure on the Soldiers. Though the Soldiers tried their best to halt the SCF onslaught failed and the SCF found the net once again in the 62nd minute which also sealed victory for them to enter the semis. Dilan Perera controlled the game.

Don Bosco Sport Club from made their way to the semi finals of the Holcim FA cup when they defeated Renown Sports Club from Kotahena in a tie beaker 4 goals to 2.

It was a keen tussle and ended in a nil all draw after the full time. In the first session of Chathura Guneratne missed an easy chance to score to put his side in front this caused them to go for the tie breaker.

The game was also considered as a big game for the two coaches the former national coach Sampath Perera who guides the Don Bosco team while the present national coach M. Amanulla handles the Renown side.

In the first quarter final Sri Lanka Navy got through to the semis beating Ratnam Sports Club also in a tie breaker three goals to one. Navy led in the first session 1-0. but the Ratnam SC qualified in the next half and the game ended in a one all draw and the tie breaker system saw Navy scrape through the semis.

The third team to enter the semis were the Sri Police team when they out played the team from Slave Island Java Lane Sports that too being on a tie break 3-1.

All these quarter finals were played at the Police ground as the City football ground which was not suitable for play due to rains that fell in the past few days.

The first semi final between Sri Lanka Navy and Don Bosco and the second between Sri Lanka Police and Nandimitra SC (CSF) are scheduled to be played on the 12th and 13th and the finals on the June 19. The venue for the final will be finalized later.
