Morale boosting win for Trinity

Rugby: A buzzling second half rally by Trinity helped them to beat Isipathana by 28 points (1 goal, 3 tries and 2 penalties) to 21 (2 goals, 2 penalties) to record a hatrick of wins in the series in their Singer schools 'A' Division League Rugger match played at Havelock Park yesterday.

The match swung excitingly from side to side with Trinity dominating the first 15 minutes where they opened scoring almost with the kick off through their number 8 Shannon Armstrong off a three quarter move, a try which went unconverted.

In the 6th minute after full back Malik Jumath missing a penalty for Isipathana, prop forward Ninusha Sooriyarachchi put Isipathana ahead touching down off a kick from a knock on. Malik Jumath added the extra points.

Helped by a downpour during the half time, Trinity got their act together through their forwards, Sandakelum Bandara, Damith Dissanayake, Kanishka Hulangamuwa and Shannon Armstrong who exploited the wet ground conditions and got the better of their opposite numbers.

But Trinity scored three tries in succession when Shannon Armstrong, Kanchana Ratnayake and K. Seneviratne put the issue beyond doubt. J.T.Siriwardena scored the try for the losers in the second half.

Arshad Cader refereed.
