Sailors reach final in a tie breaker
Don Bosco Sports Club playing with 10 men after a controversial Red
Card issued on their main striker Dulip Fernando managed to settle for
2-2 all draw during the regulation time.
Navy opened scoring in the 17th minutes off a rebound off the Don
Bosco custodian who tried to save a powerful shot at goal. Don Bosco
started attacking more aggressively and a long pass from Chatura
Gunaratne was collected by Dulip Fernando who made no mistake in finding
the net passing Navy goal keeper Ajith Kumara. Sailors too found the
equalizer few minutes later and the teams returned to the pavilion with
score on level terms 1-1.
Soon after the break Don Bosco continued to attack the Navy goal
line. Navy's goalkeeper was brought down by as Dulip fernando was on his
way towards the goal area. At this stage custodian collided with goal
keeper and referee G.N. Rubesh showed the red card to Fernando send him
out which really is questionable.
Though the Don Bosco team was reduced to 10 men they still managed to
penetrate the Navy goal.
This resulted in a good way as the Don Bosco scored their second goal
in the 60th minute of the game to take the lead.
Five minutes later Sailors with attacking movements was seen in the
goal mouth and fond the equalizer 2-2. Navy's main striker Migara
dribbled past the Don Bosco defense line on many occasions but failed to
score the winning goal fro the Sailors.
As the scores were on level terms the referee introduce the tie
breaker system which saw the Navy men with 4-2 victory advance to the
final of Holcim FA Cup 2010.
It was also was interesting scene to watch many monks and priests
from Negombo making their way to support the Negombo Club along with
thousands of supporter.
