by Ranjan ANANDAPPA
RUGBY: A robust second half rally by St. Peter's saw them completely
outplaying Wesley by 50 points (5 goals, 3 tries) to 13 (2 tries, 1
penalty) in their Singer Schools 'A' Division League rugger match at
Bambalapitiya yesterday.
The Peterites came back so strongly after the turn around and
collected 33 points to their 17 which they scored in the first half.
Wesley withstood the pressure applied by their opponents till a good
part of the first half. Infact they opened scoring when Azmil Omar fired
over a penalty and further went to plant a try when he broke off dummied
and scored which gave Wesley a 8-0 lead.
The Peterites took sometime to get their act together while the
Wesleyites kept the Petes at bay with some spoiling work through their
tackling.
The Peterites suddenly found their fluency and touched down thrice
through Keith Gurusinghe, Danushka Ranjan and Steve Nelson. St. Peter's
led 17-8 at Lemons.
On resumption the winners went on to score five more tries through
Keith Gurusinghe, Danushka Ranjan, Srinath Perera, Sandun Herath and
Banuka Nanayakkara. Rizwan Meeding put over the conversions.
For Wesley Azmil Omar and Randika Tillekeratne were the try scorers.
