STOCK FOCUS

21ST TO 24TH JUNE 2010

Investors are being provided many avenues for investments by way of IPOs and Rights issues,many more of which are to follow. On offer now is the 16.7 million Odel Ltd. share issue at Rs 15, which appears to be drawing good interest.Reverting to the share market, certain shares have slumped to attractive levels due to profit taking keeping prudent HNWIs glued to their terminals.

Institutional investors were also busy especially in the banking and hotels sectors. A local pension fund captured over 20 million shares in Hotels Corporation on Monday 21st. Dialog and JK Holdings remained in the front lines but with minor price fluctuations. Overseas Realty was active most of the 4 days, with the weeks peak being Rs 20.75. Ceylon Leather Products in which a RIGHTS and warrants was announced evoked fair response. Ceylon Cold Stores and Bukit Darah were on the reverse, but Hunters improved by Rs 200 to reach Rs 900 on 22nd.

MANUFACTURING

Over 1 mln ACL Cables were transacted on 21st,while fair interest prevailed in Sierra Cables, Grain Elevators, Tokyo Cement - Non Voting and Dankotuwa Porcelain. Transactions in excess of 14 mln shares of Sierra Cables were effected on 23rd. Abans was at Rs 218.25

HEALTHCARE

Asiri Surgical and Nawaloka Hospitals were actively traded.

BANKS FINANCE AND INSURANCE

Seylan Bank Non Voting, Nation Lanka Finance (CSF), Sampath and NTB were most favoured in this sector. LB Finance was on the fast track, reaching Rs 148 on Thursday before closing at Rs 144.50.Commercial Bank commenced trading on Monday after the recent share split.The Japanese Apple fans were the first in the world to get the latest iPhone 4 on its global debut. Apple states that it has sold over 50 million iPhones since it was launched in 2007.
