Maliban Biscuit Manufactories (Pvt) Ltd (MBML) won the prestigious
Superior Taste Award 2010 from the Brussels-based International Taste
and Quality Institute (ITQI) for three of its brands, namely Chocolate
Cream Biscuit, Gold Marie and Cream Cracker. This was said at a media
conference held in Colombo last week.
Maliban is the first Sri Lankan biscuit manufacturer to win the
award. ITQI is the world’s leading independent chefs and sommeliers
based organization, dedicated to testing, awarding and promoting
superior tasting consumer food and drink. It serves as a powerful tool
for distributors and consumers to identify products of world-class
quality and taste.
MBML Chairman A. G. R. Samaraweera said “quality has always been at
the forefront of Maliban since it was opened over 60 years ago.
Our founders had a simple, yet valuable message for us - treat
quality and innovation as your religion and looking back on our journey,
I am proud to say that this is what has come to define us. This award
demonstrates our firm commitment towards ensuring superior taste and
quality”. MBML CEO (Sales and Marketing) Ravi Jayawardena said, “From
the consumers’ point of view, for any biscuit, quality and the taste are
the two most important factors. By Quality it is meant that the product
has been made out of classy raw materials, is of nutritional value and
is made using state-of- art manufacturing processes.
Taste also plays a vital role.
taste means a mouth-watering aroma, an excellent mouth-feel, soothing
after taste, exceptional crispiness,” he said. MBML Assistant General
Manager, Quality Assurance/Research & Development, Warna Fernando said,
“For this evaluation we decided to submit only three products, which
were randomly selected from our product range.
We are very proud that all our three submissions were awarded. We
have taken much effort to maintain superior quality and taste in our
product range. Tests are conducted on a regular basis and we take great
care every step of the way - from choosing our raw material to
production and packaging - to maintain our quality standards”. |
