Ash-Choke Ferrey!

With absolutely no offence to the hunky-dory dude known as the infamous Ashok Ferrey, it has caused a bit of an uproar in high-societal and low-societal circles that he's out to make a major program on television about literary life.

Aptly named the Ashok Ferrey show, it is not really a reality show like everyone wants to manufacture nowadays but an ardent and inkling of how literature, especially that of an English nature, has trickled into our writing.

Says the guy who started the Mouse of Passion, "I want to inspire young writers to be comfortable in their own skin and take to reading and writing.

There is a huge potential

Ferrey-ing away, he adds, "I know I can't save the world and make everyone do as I say but if a handful of people are inspired to take literature to a different level in Sri Lanka, then I've done my part." Displaying his coloured contact lenses and hard-work abdominal muscles, Ferrey explains that ours is a Sri Lankan English that is unique to us and we should be comfortable in using it. Like in the words of avid writer, renowned British journalist, photographer and publisher Juliet Coombe, "Sri Lankan English, in its purest form, can rival that of Indian English because it is so original and invigorating."

Featuring brilliant literature writers, authors and just certain characters that have something to say, the interviews are done in a special one-to-one basis and every interviewee is given an exceptional role in the Ashok Ferrey show that will take your television screens shortly on local television.

We can see many stars flicker and flit between their personal lives to their more known personas. "In addition to this, I want to reveal that these are not larger-than-life characters but human beings like you and me who have the mundane problems that life has to offer," he said.

Furthermore, Ashok is determined to give the so-called literature critics a run for their money and bring out the best that our writing talent can give Sri Lanka.

"At the end of the day, it's about the written work and the immense talents displayed by a nation where people around the world remember. Hence, by having a programme on a platform such as this, I want to make it known that ours is a civilization like no other!" concluded the Ferrey.
