Jayasri - a hot hit in Vienna

Vienna today is a front-rank metropolis of World Music and Jayasri is the only Sri Lankan pop band in Austria who have proudly, over these past years kept the flag of Sri Lanka flying high in Vienna. They were responsible in introducing Sinhala music, rap and raga in dance tempo to music lovers in Vienna which was well received ever since the group commenced their musical career in that country. Today, Jayasri is a name to be reckoned with when they are on stage with music groups from Vienna as well as with international bands.

"This summer," says Rohitha, "We will be at some of Europe's biggest festivals and venues including Reggaejam, Summerjam, Ebreichsdorf Reggae Festival, Afrika Tage - African days, Africult Open Air, Donauinselfest in Austria, Germany and Italy. We will be performing with such world music stars as the Wailers, Damian Marley, Angelique Kidjo, Marla Glenn, Hans Soelner, Eliah Prophet and more - it's an experience that cannot be described. To be able to rapport with them and be appreciated for your music is heart warming. There are also some tours lined up for our band. We hope to perform in UK, Canada and Cyprus."

For all their fans in Sri Lanka, a selection of Jayasri hits as ring tones are now available at all leading mobile networks in Sri Lanka, which is a constant and pleasant reminder of their artistry.

More good news for all, is that Jayasri's original songs 'Mother Earth' and 'Situkuamriye' were selected for the World Music Compilation CD 'Migrant Music Vienna' which will be distributed by Lotus Records Worldwide. The 4 CD box compilation features 61 world music bands from 41 countries. For the opening of the world music festival nine bands out of the 61 were chosen and Jayasri was lucky to be one of the nine.

"It's great to work and perform with top world music bands and artistes - an unforgettable experience!" exclaims Rohitha of Jayasri.
