Another Cantando concert

The annual concert by the Cantando Cello Ensemble comprising 15 cellists will be staged at the Lionel Wendt Theatre on July 7. An event that has been looked forward to by classical music lovers has been gaining a reputation as one of the foremost string ensembles in the country. This year two cellists from Bombay will be joining the ensemble as well as founder members of the Ensemble who will be returning home from Australia, USA and London, to play for this concert.

The programme for the concert will include an ingenious arrangement of Bach's Prelude and Fugue from the Cello Suite No. 5, Beethoven's Rondo from Symphony No. 7, a couple of Dvorak's Slavonic Dances and De Falla's ever popular Ritual Fire Dance.

One of the highlights of the evening concert will be the guest performance of Mary Ann David, soprano with the ensemble.

In lighter vein the ensemble will also perform catchy ragtime and a tango you are not likely to forget. Last year the Cantando was invited to perform at the National Centre for Performing Arts in Mumbai and this year the Ensemble has been extended an invitation to perform in Bangalore by the Bangalore School of Music.
