Efforts to promote inter-religious harmony hailed

Swami Dayananda Saraswathi, a Hindu dignitary from India, praised the
Government of President Mahinda Rajapaksa on the initiatives taken to
promote inter-religious harmony in Sri Lanka.
A group of leading Hindu dignitaries from India were in Colombo to
take part in a symposium organised by the Maha Bodhi Society of Sri
Lanka.
Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne presided over the event.
Swami Dayananda Saraswathi addressing the symposium said that he
admired the manner in which the Lankan Government maintained
inter-religious harmony.
He was full of praise for the Lankan Government for its role in
rebuilding the Hindu temples affected in the North and East.
Swami Dayananda Saraswathi also pointed out that religious harmony
will be improved between the two countries as a model for the whole
world.
The Hindu Religious Summit was organised by the initiation of Ven.
Banagala Upathissa Thera who is the Head of the Maha Bodhi Association.
The Prime Minister said that it was important to strengthen religious
harmony between India and Sri Lanka and pointed out the importance of
the summit in this regard.
