JICA funds EP drinking water projects

The Japan International Cooporation Agency (JICA) has granted Rs 900
million to the Eastern Province to improve its rural drinking water
supply system.
A large number of residents in the Trincomalee, Batticaloa and Ampara
Districts who are undergoing immense difficulties to get pure drinking
water will benefit once the inaugurated projects are completed,
according to Eastern Province Rural Water Supply and Road Development
Minister M. S. Uthumalebbe. Rs. 300 million has been allocated for each
District to implement the rural drinking water supply projects.
Uthumalebbe expressed confidence that a solution could be found for
the prevailing problem of pure drinking water in the Eastern Province
through the implementation of such mega projects. |
