Illicit gun factory raided

A workshop at Mediwewa in Galenbindunuwewa where small time arms and ammunition were manufactured was raided by police last week, the Police Media Spokesman Superintendent of Police (SP) Prishantha Jayakody told the Sunday Observer.

The police recovered a locally manufactured 12 bore double barrel gun, four iron barrels, two empty cartridges and several single barrel guns and an army combat uniform. Kekirawa police said that a farmer who was suspected of running the illicit workshop was taken into custody.

The suspect was produced before the Galenbindunuwewa Magistrate who remanded him until investigations are completed.(JJ)
