Three-cornered tussle for rugby 'Plum'

RUGBY: It will be a three cornered tussle for the local rugby 'plum', the Caltex Rugby League 2010 which comes to an end on July 3 with the completion of the Knady SC vs CR&FC match at Longden Place.

Defending champions Kandy SC, last year runner-up CR&FC, and the formidable Navy are in the running for the Caltex 'A' Division League Cup Championship.

Kandy SC who has a three point lead over their nearest rival CR&FC should go all out for victory against the rapidly improving Navy at Nittawela today and if their closest challengers CR&FC lose to Air Force at Katunayake today, Kandy SC are assured of the title for the tenth successive year.

But if Navy springs a 'shock' by beating Kandy for the second time in the season, the contest will be open with 'CR' or Navy having a chance of bagging the title. CR&FC last won the title in 1998.

Table leaders Police and Army, who are placed second upto Friday will lock horns for the 'plate' championship.

The Caltex Cup Championship and Plate Trophies will be presented after the CR&FC - Kandy match at Longden Place on Saturday, July 3.
