Passage to nowhere

Burdened through the years
The face reveals the tale
Of many years gone by
Unknown unnumbered too busy to count
Ranmenika stands on the highway
Wondering, pondering which way to go
But who knows what's behind that glowing Sun
And the gem studded sky - mutters to herself
I have sons-daughters
But do they care for me now
They've flown to new pastures
To earn another buck - I here alone to reminisce
My future - who cares - only a wet blanket
Too feeble - yet deep in my heart
One sight more - before I sleep

- Dharma Weeraratne

The difference

I got up early one morning
And rushed right into the day
I had so much to accomplish
I didn't have time to pray
Problems just tumbled about me and
Heavier came each task
Why doesn't God help me I wonder
He answered, "You didn't ask
I wanted to see joy and beauty but
The day toiled on grey and bleak
I wondered why God didn't show me
He said, "You didn't seek"
I tried to come into God's presence
I used all the keys at the lock
God lovingly and gently chided
"My child you didn't knock"
I woke up early this morning and paused
Before entering the day
I had so much to accomplish that
I had to take time to pray

The street girl

Don't know
Where I'm born
Don't know
Where my mum is
I'm on the street
Since my memory start
Don't have anything
Else except my clothes
And my name
"The street girl"

Ode to John Keats

In silence I weep, in sleep I dream
John Keats, you, the doyen of odes
Repent I with the pupils of mine
For the delay I made, to celebrate your lines

Vision you gave, in the odes you wrote
Eternally lies in the minds of the great
The note of sadness, through the lines you sound
Perceptive life with the vividness of joy
Permanence of art ideally you made
Glamour of romance reigns in the tone
You, the sensuous Keats, upheld the eternal beauty
"Beauty is truth, truth is beauty"
Yet mutability prevails
Dryad of the trees overpowered your pain
Made you drink to the skinful we say
Dreaded disease, embalmed your soul
Reverberate in my veins - the urn, the song and Keats

As long as sensitivity reigns
Sensibility gives the strength to live
Odes of yours stimulate the neurons
Pushes the world to infinite ends.

Friendship

Valuable bond
Easy to make
Hard to keep
Depend on trust
Can't be broken by others
Only between Friends

A Medhavi Abeysinghe

A shadow

On a very gloomy night
When the princess of darkness kisses the world
Passing the violet tracts
Sleeping in the golden moonlight
And the oceans
Where the mermaids sing their song of love
I went in footpaths and stiles
Finding a bright light for my life
Which never gets extinguishes
Oh! I saw a bright shining light
A goddess came from heaven
Stepped on earth...
With shinning blue eyes
With a sweet voice, a smile
Which fill the hearts with everlasting love
Her beauty makes me mute
She speaks to me
"My Dear, come to me"
Those words make my life shaken
Felt as the whole world belongs to me
She was not any one else
That's you my Mum!
You are a great rampart which protects me from danger
A stream of love within you
Which comes to my heart
Through mountain passes and thorny shrubs
A shower of blessings to my whole life
Which leads me to the mountain of success
I didn't feel the loneliness in life
Because you were behind me
As a shadow which never disappears
Every moment I think of you
To bring showers of happiness for your life
I love you my dear Mum...
