Wham rocked the charts in go go style
Call it what you may, bouncy middle-of-road music, but you can't get
away from the fact that the duo Wham from the UK was the bridge between
the 1970s glam rock and the sex-pop of the 1990s. Scruffy George Michael
together with his school friend Andrew Ridgeley formed the duo Wham and
they literally leapt to stardom with a string of hits much to the envy
of their peers.
"Wake Me Up Before You Go Go" was just another boom boom beat song,
but it turned out to be a hit seller for Wham. Radio stations worldwide
were constantly airing the song and even here in Sri Lanka the national
radio gave the song considerable airplay resulting in the song being a
firm favourite till today on the dance floors.
Wham faded out from the scene when George Michael after a successful
duo career launched on a solo career with the release of his 1984 single
Careless Whispers. |
