GK depositors in bid to reclaim money

The Ceylinco-Golden Key Depositors Association (GKCC) will form a
Trustee in a bid to reclaim their deposits.
President of the GKCC, Dushanthi Hapugoda said they hope to bring in
Ceylinco Chairman Lalith Kotelawela for this proposed committee along
with 10 other depositors.
She said that almost two years have gone by, but only Rs. 800 million
had been paid out of the capital of Rs. 26 billion. "This too was given
as Rs. 100,000 advances for the 6,870 depositors and since then nothing
noteworthy has taken place," she said.
Hapugoda said they met President Mahinda Rajapaksa and the Central
Bank Governor in this regard six months ago and this meeting was very
fruitful. "However nothing is moving now," she said.
She said one of the main reasons for them to formulate a Trustee was
to replace the existing three-member committee operating from a cubicle
at the Central Bank.
She said their unwarranted expenses add up to Rs. 21 million and this
money could have been paid to settle some depositors.
