Misuse of credit cards highlighted
Shirajiv SIRIMANE
There is an alarming increase in the use of
personal credit cards for third party transactions in violation
of Foreign Exchange Laws.
The use of personal credit cards for third party
transactions is forbidden and if one uses such credit cards on
foreign exchange payments it can be construed as a foreign
exchange fraud. Managing Director NKar Travels, Nilmin
Nanayakkara said that this was more evident in the local
aviation industry.
“We reliably understand that many travel agents,
including award winning blue chip companies, use the personal
credit cards of their Directors or senior staff members to
purchase air tickets in bulk for their clients,” he
said.Nanayakkara said that this has created an unfair business
platform for travel agents who respect the laws of the land as
they are being slowly put out of business. “Unfortunately, we as
law abiding travel agents cannot take advantage of such offers,
since the use of a credit card is required for such
transactions.”
