Hikkaduwa Beach Fest to attract large crowds

The much awaited fourth edition of the Hikkaduwa Beach Fest will be held from July 30 - 31 in selected venues in the area.

The main organizers of the event, Hikkaduwa Hoteliers Association (HHA) is also planning to re-introduce a cultural pageant (Perahera) on the last day to make the event more colourful.

President, HHA and Managing Director, Coral Sands Hotel Hikkaduwa, Siri Gunawardane said that this event is promoted to increase domestic tourism and revenue for the area. This event is also organised to attract youth in the country and also overseas.

"Last year the event saw all the hotels in the area being occupied for three days while the restaurants and other indirect tourist industry too benefited from the event," he said.

Gunawardane said that foreign DJs would be flown in and the main event would be held at Amaya Reef, Hikkaduwa.

An open beach party will be held at the beach so that more people could participate.

"A kite festival and a sand castle competition and many other events have been organised", Gunawardane said.
