Gateway, Western Province athletic champs

Gateway College Colombo, that has already produced many National Level athletes over the years, has once again displayed their skill by some excellent performances at the recently concluded Western Province Athletic Championship.

They secured the Girls Overall Championship by beating Holy Family Convent, Bambalapitiya who became runners-up with 47 points and Ladies College who secured the third place with 38 points. Ave Maria Negombo, Musaeus College, Visakha Vidyalaya, Methodist College and St. Bridget's College too performed creditably.

Minethmi Karunawardena (under-11), Ruwanthi Ferdinandes (under-17) and Udara Ratnayake (under-21) became the Champion Athletes in their relevant age groups. Gateway won the Senior Girls championship with 40 points and the Overall Girls championship with 49 points.

The performance of the squad was even more significant as they had to compete in the absence of Nadeeshani Henderson who was overseas representing the National squad.

Nadeeshani was crowned with the "Gateway Dove" - the highest award for sports at Gateway, at the recently concluded Gateway Colors nite.
