Old Kingswoodians 'sevens' champs

Old Kingswoodians Sports Club, Kandy, won the Cup championship at the
inaugural seven-a-side inter club rugby championship organised by the
Central Province Rugby Football Union (CPRFU) when they defeated a much
improved Dickoya Maskeliya Cricket Club by 24 points (2 goals, 2 tires)
to 5 ( 1 try ) in the finals played at the Nittawela Rugby stadium in
Kandy. At half time Old Kingswoodians led 5 - 0.
Old Kingswoodians had in their ranks some of the former schoolboy
ruggerites who did service for them school in the season just over.
Scrum half Oshan Perera scored two tries which he goalled himself and
the other two tries were scored by full back Indunil Wickremasinghe and
Harsha Ranaweera which went unconverted. For Dickoya winger Samitha
Dananjaya scored an unconverted try.

Governor of the Central Province Tikiri Kobbekaduwa was the Chief
Guest and he distributed the main awards with the Principal of Trinity
College Brigadier Udaya Ariyaratne.
Old Antonians won the Plate Championship by defeating their
traditional rivals Trinity College youths by the close margin of 17
points (1 goal, 2 tries) to 10 (2 tries) in the Plate finals at half
time the Antonians led 7 - 0.
Try scorers for the Old Antonians were centre Dilum Jayaweera (1)
flanker Royston David (1), and winger Mohamed Ashroff (1) who also
goalled the first try. For the Trinity 'Youths' Damith Dissanayake and
Kenan Armstrong scored a try each which went unconverted.

Dimbula Athletic and Cricket Club who last won a major title in 1970
when they became League Champions displayed that they are returning to
recognition when they won the Bowl Championship by defeating the
youthful Kandy Municipal Sports Club by 21 points (2 goals) to 14 (2
goals) in the Bowl finals. At lemons the scores stood level at 12 all.
Try scorers for Dimbula Planters were winger Hiran Romesh (1) flanker
Shashika Wickremasinghe (1) and winger Bhagya Jayatillake (1) Mohammed
Jabeer added the extra points to all three tries. For the Municipality
Chanaka Unantenna and Mohammed Shaffraz scored a try each which were
goalled by stand off C.B. Ratnayake
