DFCC Bank receives International Business Award for CSR
DFCC Bank has earned a Distinguished Honoree Award in the category of
The Best Corporate Social Responsibility Program of the Year in Asia
(Subcontinent, Australia and New Zealand) in The 2010 International
Business Awards (IBAs).
The award was for the 'Six-S implementation in schools project 2009'.
The IBAs are the only global all encompassing business awards program
honouring great performances in business. Honourees have been selected
from two rounds of judging by professionals worldwide.
Organisations and individuals from 40 countries submitted 1700
entries to the IBA's this year.
DFCC Bank is the only corporate from Sri Lanka to be honoured in the
IBAs and is among other honourees in this category from past years such
as Procter & Gamble, Thai life Insurance and Unilever Indonesia.
The 'Six-S implementation in schools project' together with
guidanceon the '3R' (reduce, reuse, recycle) principles on environment
stewardship was part of DFCC Bank's overall strategy for 2009 in
building a sustainable business.
The Bank's commitment to the project has yielded good results having
a success rate of 90 percent.
There was a remarkable improvement to the classrooms and surrounding
areas of the participating schools which aided in changing the attitudes
and behaviour of children as well as teachers.
This in turn has improved efficiency and productivity levels. Parent
guidance was also a key part of the crucial work of inculcating in
children good habits and respect for the environment.
The Award, named STEVIE for the Greek word 'crowned', is scheduled to
be presented to honorees in September at a ceremony in Istanbul.
