Country Roads - John Denver
World's best-loved song
John Denver's million seller Country Roads continues to be the
world's best-loved song even today. Thirteen years ago this world's best
known performer who earned international acclaim as a songwriter,
performer, actor, environmentalist and humanitarian tragically met with
his death when the plane he was travelling crashed.
His music has spanned three decades, outlasted countless musical
trends, garnered numerous music awards and honours. In 1993 he received
the prestigious Albert Schweitzer Music Award and a year before his
death in 1996 he was inducted into the Songwriter's Hall of Fame.
Country Roads the song became a signature tune for all country and
western shows worldwide and even in Sri Lanka. Denver born John
Deutschendort Jnr started his music career at the age of 22 but
ironically he gained popularity after he took on the stage name of
Denver, the Rocky Mountain capital city of Colorado, his home state.
Almost heaven, West virginia
Blue ridge mountains, Shenandoah river
Life is old there, older than the trees
Younger than the mountains, blowing like a breeze
Country roads, take me home
To the place, I belong
West virginia, mountain Momma
Take me home, country roads
All my mem'ries, gather 'round her
Miner's lady, stranger to blue water
Dark and dusty, painted on the sky
Misty taste of moonshine, teardrop in my eye
Country roads, take me home
To the place, I belong
West Virginia, mountain Momma
Take me home, country roads
I hear her voice, in the mornin' hours she calls to me
The radio reminds me of my home far a-way
And drivin' down the road I get a feeling'
That I should have been home yesterday, yesterday
Country roads, take me home
To the place, I belong
West Virginia, mountain momma
Take me home, country roads
