Swadeshi receives ISO 9001:2008

Swadeshi Industrial Works PLC, manufacturer of herbal based personal care products has received the ISO 9001:2008 International Quality Management Certification from the Sri Lanka Standards Institute (SLSI) for the company's quality management systems. Swadeshi's quality management system was earlier certified as compliant with ISO 9001:2000.

The key elements leading to this certification include achieving quality objectives, involvement of people in the quality management system, the process approach and continued improvements in manufacturing, fact-based decision-making, mutually beneficial supplier relationships, customer satisfaction and focusing on consumer needs. The company's quality management system was evaluated on International Standard Organisation guidelines and those of the assessor. The SLSI is accredited by RVA Netherlands, the most recognised accreditation body in Europe.

A spokesperson for Swadeshi said: "All our products satisfy the highest legal and safety requirements, and the quality of all raw materials, packaging material and all processing steps are closely monitored by our Quality Assurance Department to ensure the quality of finished products." She said that the quality management system of the company is well documented and implemented with the active participation of employees at all levels. "This certification will further enhance the trust that our products have enjoyed over several decades," she said.

"We have introduced many new brands and products over the years and have taken measures to ensure that the high quality of each product is maintained," she added.

The Swadeshi Industrial Works was the first Sri Lankan company to manufacture herbal soap in Sri Lanka. The Company's innovative and research based developments have resulted in many firsts in the industry including the first Sandalwood beauty soap and shower gel (Rani) and the first herbal beauty soap and shower gel (Khomba).

The company also introduced the first herbal baby soap and baby care range under the Khomba baby label, a herbal shampoo range under the brand Khomba and an eastern floral perfume and shower gel range branded Lady.

The brand portfolio of Swadeshi includes 'Apsara Venivel', 'Perlwite', 'Lak Bar', 'Lady' (Perfume) and 'Black Eagle' (Perfume and After Shave) brands.
