Father's happiness

I visited my daughter
In a far off land
Living with her family
Happy and satisfied
Early morning one day
While I was there
I looked out of my window
And saw a beautiful sight
The little girl
Once carried in my arms
Waving out to me
While driving away in her car
Tears came to my eyes
With memories flooding my mind
I never knew such happiness
Ever before in my life.

-T.M. Ariyawansa Rodrigo

Sadness

Do you like to be so?
Everyone says "No".
Who has "invented" it then?
No one can guess it even!

Who are the sufferers?
Everyone who is born
Who can go beyond it?
The strong minded; they can!

-Shashini Dinusha Gamagedara

Ignorance

On a pilgrimage
In a luxury coach
As a couple of doves
I was seated next to him
Mesmerised by his attire and fragrance
Quite Cosy, comfortable.

Throughout the journey
Four lustful eyes
Exchanged a myriad of desires
Sans a single utterance

On the verge of our destination
Boldly I scribbled my wish
Inserted inside his shirt pocket
Unaware of the embers
deep in his heart
Oh! ignorance is bliss

Reality

Unexpectedly .....
Friendly gatherings
Turned into a misty thunder
With the season of winter

Unexpectedly .....
The creator of nature
changed it as spring
Engraving pleasant thoughts in two minds
To make them a perfect couple ....
Who are born for each other ....

Unexpectedly .....
Crossing all the upcoming hurdles
With courage and determination
Illuminating novel thoughts
To climb the ladder of success
With ....
Understanding
Trust
Love
Affection.....

Exams

Much preparedness beforehand
Rushing through notes, stressed and panicked
To reduce knowledge gained throughout a year
Into parts easy to remember and to store in memory
To display in not less than three hours maximum
By shaping and adding, in tackling questions
The challenges of life
And then when the exam is over, it is time
To judge, curse, discuss, repent or to rejoice
Of what passed between you and the paper
Within the fateful three hours
And then to fret and agitate
Till the results are out!

-Chanakya Liyanage

Glances

She sees him
With his eyes down
Averted
Diverted
His attention elsewhere
She knows that
He is looking at her
Trying to catch a glance
Just one
Small
And simple
But does she know that she knows
That he is glancing
At her?
