A walk...
Walking along the sandy shores,
Leaving every footstep,
For a wave to swab away,
The ghastly steps,
That ruined the charming exquisiteness,
Looking forward,
Reaching no end,
Finding no start,
I continued walking....
I saw,
The radiant orb of fire,
Being swallowed,
By the monstrous sea,
Another golden ball,
Bestowed light to the world,
I walked further and further,
Reaching no end,
Realizing fresh things,
Experiencing new joys,
And sorrows,
I walked along the sandy shores,
In seclusion........... Gimhani Upeksha Waduge
Though the poem is of an evening walk along
the sandy shore, the poet skillfully compares it to life with happiness
and sorrow. It is a continuous walk of discovery and experience reaching
no end. Each and every footprint on the sand is washed away and the sea
devours the fire ball which lights up the earth. So every step on the
sand of time will vanish from the memory. The poet ends the poem with a
key phrase 'in seclusion...'. It is a walk in 'seclusion..'. The poem is
noted for using apt metaphors and simple diction. -Indeewara |
