TNA decision tomorrow
by P. Krishnaswamy
The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) will announce its decision on the
proposed 18th Amendment tomorrow, its General Secretary Mavai
Senadhirajah MP told the Sunday Observer.
The Amendment will be presented in Parliament on Wednesday.
“This matter has already been entrusted to our legal advisors for
their advice on the constitutional and legal implications of the 18th
Amendment. The Party’s parliamentary group will meet tomorrow to take a
final decision,” Senadhirajah said. He said they would decide soon on
participating in the meetings of the Tamil Parties Forum (TPF) that is
in the process of holding talks to reach a common stance on a political
solution to the national issue. Although the TPF, joined by 10 Tamil
parties, had already held several rounds of talks in an effort to reach
a consensus, the TNA did not participate in the talks because they had
not received a formal invitation, Senadhirajah said adding that they
have now received an invitation.
Party leader R. Sampanthan MP will discuss the invitation with party
stalwarts and Parliamentarians taking into consideration the need for
unity among all Tamil and Muslim political parties, including the
up-country political parties, and the necessity of reaching a uniform
stance, Senadhirajah said.
