Airmen fight all the way to a draw
by Bernard PERERA
Sri Lanka Air Force managed to stay on top for another period when
they held Renown SC to a one all draw at the City Football Complex in a
Dialog Champions League encounter yesterday.
Airmen took control of the game in the first session and went for
Lemons with a one nil lead. Renown fought a big battle during this
period for almost 32 minutes. It was S. Sanjeev who found the net first
to put the Airmen in to the lead. The balance 13 minutes was a grim
battle for Renown players as they were put under pressure by the Air
Force front runners. But both sides failed to add anything to the
scoreboard.
After the turn around Renown came up with a brilliant performance to
find the equalizer just 65 minutes into the game. Soon after this
equalizer the Airmen had to come out with everything they had in store
to control the strikers from Renown camp. But it was fruitless as Renown
got ahead when Zain scored the most wanted goal for Renown 2-1.
Airmen once again came out with a superlative attack and with 12
minutes away from the final whistle Sampath Perera's header found the
net and the equalizer for Airmen.
There was no scoring after this and the game ended in a draw 2-2.
Don Bosco in a draw
Third placed Don Bosco playing in their own den failed to overcome
the newcomers to the Dialog Champion League Kalutara Park SC when the
game ended in a one all draw.
As this game saw end in this fashion there will not be a change in
positions in the standing as each team get a point.
Army 2, Saunders 2
At CR & FC Ground Saunder Sports Club from Pettah was held to a draw
by the Sri Lanka Army.
Saunders were in front with the score reading 1-0 at lemons.
Saunders went further ahead and were well placed at 2-0. But the
never say die soldier put on a brave display in the second session to
draw the game.
